Sian Mathias

Sian Mathias is an established governance advisor and trainer. She has over 25 year’s experience that includes chairing several governing boards and she is currently chair of an expanding multi-academy trust on South London.  For 10 years she led and developed a local authority governor support service and was part of a successful school improvement team.  She has chaired the London Coordinators of Governor Services group and represented London on the National body. Since going freelance she has worked across London advising a number of Local Authorities, leading independent investigations, undertaking reviews and designing training for governors and school leaders.

Course Outline
 
This course is designed as a follow on from the revised Model Complaints Procedure which was released to schools in May last year and from the guidance issued by the Department for Education. The course will seek to reinforce the main aspects of the complaints procedure and provide attendees with practical tips on handling complaints. Some case studies will be included highlighting common problem areas for schools. It is recommended for Governors ? who wish to equip themselves with the skill and knowledge required to dispose of complaints fairly and effectively

Jamie Hassan

Prior to becoming a consultant Jameel worked as an advisory teacher for a local authority, after spending 15 years as a primary and secondary school teacher. Jameel (known as Jamie) is a very experienced consultant, trainer and up until very recently, an early years Ofsted inspector. He has worked abroad (Abu Dhabi) and in the UK. As a Primary specialist, his areas of expertise include school inspections (performed for Ofsted), school leadership development, whole school improvement, headteacher performance management, the teaching of English and teacher training. Since leaving his last substantive role in 2010 he has worked independently for a number of clients. He set up his own company called Succeed Ed. Jameel continues to perform reviews for schools as well as teacher assessment and moderation for local authorities. Jameel has a BA in Physical education and English, a PGCE and a post graduate diploma in PSHE/PSED early years. 

Course Outline

EYFS for governors 
This courses is designed to help members of governing boards fulfil:
  • the statutory duties in relation to the provision of Early Years education in their school with particular links to the education inspection framework.
  • an  understanding of EYFS and give a clearer picture of current Early Years provision and its development linked to the EYFS curriculum with the changes due in 2021
  • the needs of governors in schools who have adopted early the new EYFS curriculum prior to 2021
  • those who govern in schools with Early Years pupils or solely early years  nursery settings.
